Big Canoe POA Election: FOBC Candidate Endorsement

GET OUT TO ONE OF MIKE VOLK'S MEET & GREETS!

FOBC has never taken the position of endorsing a candidate before. Due to several factors, FOBC whole heartedly endorses POA Board Candidate, Mike Volk, in the upcoming election.

Mike has perhaps the most relevant experience of all the candidates, and perhaps most importantly, he doesn’t come with any “Big Canoe Insider Baggage”, specifically like the two candidates that are coming from the Finance Committee (Sandy Pullara & Jim Conneely).  Craig Price would be my second choice, primarily just to take votes away from the 2 finance people.  The community simply can’t take another rubber stamping Finance Committee member just being kicked up to the Board.

FOBC takes the positive and proactive approach of endorsing Mike Volk, a man with years of previous experience as an HOA President that never raised dues; and that has project oversight experience (and since we do have $15 Million Dollars worth of projects kicking off, expereince dealing with cost over runs, change orders etc could come in handy).

FOBC also takes the position that enough is enough.  They say that the definition of insanity is to do the same things over and over again… and expect different results.  Well, we have been rubber stamping Finance Committee Members into Board positions, whose outgoing directors were previous finance committee members, that replaced previous directors who were previously finance committee members…. and so on and so on.  We need to break this incestuous chain of non-transparent and arrogant insiders that keep getting us deeper and deeper into debt, and can’t provide any transparency for how OUR MONIES are being spent.

Mike Volk has recently posted on the Big Canoe GA Official Members Facebook Group, the following:

I will be hosting a meet and greet for my candidacy for the POA Board on Friday 11-10, Tuesday 11-14, Thursday 11-16 (11-16 cancelled due to conflict) and Friday 11-17 from 6:30 to 8:30pm at the Big Canoe Company Developer Offices next to the Chimneys. I look forward to answering questions and discussing my vision of Big Canoe and listening to what Homeowners Visions are for Big Canoe.

I hope anyone who isn’t already familiar with Mike’s positions will attend at least one of these meetings before casting your vote.  Ask Questions! Get to Know Who You Are Voting For!

In case you haven’t read Mike’s Election Campaign Bio, here it is:

My name is Mike Volk, and I would be honored to represent Big Canoe Homeowners as a Board member.

My wife Cathy and I moved to Big Canoe three years ago to be closer to our grandkids and family. We were looking for a peaceful and quiet Mountain community and we found our forever home here in Big Canoe.

I have over 25 years of law enforcement experience. I graduated from the State Police Academy in Hershey, Pa. After 7 years with a Pennsylvania Police Department, I went to work with the Dekalb County Police Department before retiring.

I was a regional manager for Blockbuster Video, responsible for the overall budgets of an entire region.

I was an Operations Manager for Cort Trade Shows, responsible for the budget of a five-state area.

I went to work at the University of Georgia in Athens as the enforcement manager in charge of parking and traffic control and later as the campus construction and maintenance manager where I watched over and directed all construction and maintenance projects. This included all new buildings, paving and striping projects on campus.

I served as President of a 700-home HOA in Gwinnett County for 12 years. During my time as President, we never raised the assessments for the community.

I have been an ordained wedding officiant for over 16 years.

I served on the Big Canoe POA Governance Documents Review Task Force.

I am a member of the Big Canoe Program and Events volunteers.

I am enrolled in the Leadership Big Canoe class of 2023-24.

I am currently serving as treasurer of the North GA. Mountains History Center.

My Priorities

  • Be totally transparent in all I do as a Board member.
  • Prioritize future development within our community.
  • Explore the improvement and utilization of all our Big Canoe amenities.
  • Ensure the safety of all our residents.
  • Keep residents up to date on all construction projects.
