Big Canoe POA Unilaterally Explores Changing Community Name!

Big Canoe POA Board Strikes Again!

SPECIAL NOTICE:  This is actually a 2 for 1 article.  The FOBC publisher (25 yr BC Resident) has written a brief editorial below; and the BCMatters.org publisher (17 year BC Resident) has written a great perspective article on this Hot & Breaking News Community Topic.  BCMatters.org – “About that Big Canoe Trademark…” <Read!

BEGIN FOBC EDITORIAL

I just received my “POA Eblast” regarding the Trademark issues, and am once again just confounded with the clueless POA leadership that this Community has. I can’t believe we are seriously still dealing with the Trademark issue, or that the concept of us changing our Community Name (a 50+ year recognizable real estate brand that helps to uphold our property values!) is being openly discussed in serious fashion.

The Developer & Big Canoe Brokerage threatened to sue my Newspaper (FOBC) over my use of BigCanoe.org many years ago. I publicly mocked them, and the POA Board, for the incompetent legal morons I considered them to be – and threatened to sue THEM for slander/libel if they ever dared suggest I was acting illegally and in violation of the Trademark. (Spoiler: They caved and I never heard from them again).

I documented all of this in my 2018 article titled “A Decade of Developer Lies regarding the “Big Canoe” trademark” at the FOBC site (BIGCANOE.org), and remind everyone that Big Canoe, GA is recognized as a geographical location (which cannot be trademarked).

I think POA President Terry is just as dumb as all his predecessors. I’m really starting to think this guy is in over his head suggesting that Big Canoe Community change it’s name. Why not just call the bluff and sue the bastards. I did it, and I am still using the Big Canoe name openly and as often as I like.

We spend so much damn money on attorneys – usually to bully property owners – but these legal leaches can’t seem to defend us in what appears clearly to be a slam-dunk legal defense???

Big Canoe Developer was once already denied Trademark on Geographical Grounds all the way back in 2006. Here is a copy of the Trademark Application REJECTION:

This is a no brainer to say NO to Mike Rhodes’ Big Canoe Brokerage Group, and to STOP being intimidated!  Let’s put our attorneys to actual work for a change.  It is my understanding that they think we are odds on favorite to WIN!  So why are we contemplating any other course?

That’s my two cents for now.  And again, I think the article on this subject by Patricia Cross also deserves a read! BCMatters.org – “About that Big Canoe Trademark…” <Read!
