BIG CANOE: “EMPLOYEE NEWS” SECTION

OUR BIG CANOE EMPLOYEES ARE OUR EYES AND EARS ON THE GROUND! REMEMBER TO TAKE SOME TIME TO SAY "THANK YOU" TO THEM EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE!!

To all past and present Big Canoe Employees – I am thinking about doing some articles on the status of Employees within Big Canoe. I started thinking about it when they said they were going to close the North Gate Night Shift – and I wondered what was going to happen to the nice man that always waved at me in the evenings.

Then I just recently got a very long Message from an Employee stating in part some of the following:

(1) Employees 1/2 price lunch selections have been dramatically limited to one item choice/day (example: Reubens on Monday, Tuna Salad Tuesdays, etc)?
(2) POA is changing the benefits package and that is angering some?
(3) Employees have been told to STOP ordering replacement parts for the Golf carts?  Seriously?
(4) The person over the golf course maintenance got suspended with pay for 2 weeks because he was being aggressive/intimidating?
(5*) Clubhouse management has been similarly abusive of employees?
* this one was actually something I got some information on a while back and would simply like feedback on
(6) Employees can no longer keep tips.. its put in a pot and at the end of the year they supposedly get the tips… and many of the employees say they have never received their share?
(7) They are looking for ways to cut people close to retirement, or at least it feels that way?
(8) Employees are becoming generally more disgruntled recently?

If anyone has any information / feedback, please contact me via Facebook PM, or email themtnsvoice@aol.com with any verification/feedback of any of this, or any other issues you feel are going on.

ALSO…. I am interested in getting any quotes or stories you may have about “Property Owners acting Poorly” – but also about “Property Owners acting Wonderfully”.  Basically, what I am looking for here is the Employee side of things – their take on what I have heard in general – that it is a small group of uppity, rude, impatient, entitled property owners that are making it bad for everyone, and that are responsible for the vast majority of the negative treatment of employees.  Who in general are these people?  Are they more “Permanent Resident”, or “Part-Time Residents” or “Vacation Visitors”?  Help us to understand our community better.

Also, what are the various managers like?  And do we “the property owners” have problems we need to know about that aren’t being addressed satisfactorily by our management team?  Does anyone have an idea why our Clubhouse is losing so much money (about -$700,000 / year is the current forecast)?  Do you have any ideas for how the community could be run more efficiently?  Create a better environment for Employees?  For Property owners?  For Visitors?  This is an opportunity for Employees to interact and share information and ideas with the Property Owners!  Some of us welcome your ideas!

EVERYTHING you submit will be held in strictest confidence – and this Newspaper WILL FIGHT any attempts to obtain your identity.

And please share this article with all the current and previous employees you know.  This newspaper would really like to hear from our wonderful Big Canoe Employees that help us to keep this great community running!  Employee Letters to the Editor, or just simple sentences, anything is welcome.

And Thank You For Your Service!

PS…. for any property owners reading this…. the comments I received about Golf Cart replacement parts not being ordered is disturbing.  We keep being told that nothing has been decided in regards to the VERY EXPENSIVE Cart Replacement – but this sounds suspiciously like something they are already planning on – OR is this an attempt to make the existing fleet look like it needs replacing?  I don’t know, but either way it doesn’t sound good on face value, and perhaps it needs public addressment by management / the board?

PPS…. if Big Canoe Management feels that any of this information that has been presented to this Newspaper is incorrect, please contact us with your side of things.

Peace,
